Things To Remember

If you have heard the birds at dawn
   Greet the new day
Or seen a gem strewn dew wet lawn
   In a bright array
If you have watched long fields of grass
Nod to the gentle winds that pass
Or smelt the sweet perfume of new mown hay

If you have heard a mountain beck
   Sing o'er its rocky bed
Or seen a clump of Snowdrops, deck
   The woodland path you tread,
If you have heard a Curlews note
   Faintly calling, sad, remote
Or smelt May bloom with evenings dew drops fed

Then in the years to come you will remember
Scenes such as these, each in your memory clear
And as your waking thoughts to sleep surrender
Your dreams make each succeeding one more dear

Bird song at dawn and wind and corn
And stubble when the crop is shorn
The scent of hay, and dew drenched Thorn
And Snowdrops white and newly born

And Grass that curtseys to the breeze
And summer storms that toss the trees
And nesting birds, and Bumble Bees
And Spring's soft rains, and Autumn leaves.
