Evening
Listen:
The sun now sinks behind the darkening Down
And bids us sleep a while and rest
Whilst he goes onward on his endless round
To wake some other land far in the west
Long shadows cross the road from side to side
Birds cease their song and seek the leafy tree
The Partridge calls his straying brood to hide
And leads them to some safer sheltered Lea
The evening star her candle lights on high
To keep her watch oe'r us until the dawn
The flocks are pen'd the Herds in Byers lie
And mist enfolds the dew encrusted lawn
